Tinkle Burns Bulldogs For Career-High 31 Points

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Sophomore forward Tres Tinkle scored a career-high 31 points but the Oregon State men's basketball team fell 63-58 to Fresno State before a crowd of 5,005 at Gill Coliseum.
Tinkle had 16 points in the first half and 15 in the second in eclipsing his former career high of 26, set on Nov. 13 in a 72-64 victory over UTSA. He was 8 of 15 from the field with two 3-pointers, drained 13 of 15 free throws and added 10 rebounds for his third double-double this season and the fourth of his career. He also had a career-high six steals.
Tinkle has three 20-point performances this season and is averaging a team-high 20.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game,
Freshman guard JaQuori McLaughlin added 12 points, his fifth game in double figures. However, he was the only other Beaver in double digits and no other player scored more than four points.
OSU (2-4) led by as many as 11 points (21-10) in the first half but the Bulldogs (3-2) grabbed the intermission lead on a last-second 3-pointer by Jahmel Taylor, his fourth in the final 2:42 of the first half. Taylor hit 6 pf 10 3-pointers overall and had 17 of his team-high 21 points in the first half.
The Beavers were within two points three times early in the second half and trailed just 38-34 with 15:23 following a layup by sophomore post Drew Eubanks. The Bulldogs answered with an an 11-0 run to assume a 49-34 advantage with 10:30 remaining.
OSU mounted a late comeback and got within 59-55 with 1:13 remaining on a jumper by redshirt freshman guard Kendal Manuel. They forced a turnover to regain possession but Fresno State stole the ball right back and hit two free throws for a 61-55 edge.
McLaughlin hit a 3-pointer with 28 seconds to play to make it a one-possession game at 61-58 but Fresno State made two more free throws with 22 seconds to play for the final margin.
Eubanks had five blocks, two short of his career high. Junior guard Ronnie Stacy added a career-high three assists.
The Beavers resume nonconference action at 6 p.m. Monday when they host Southern Oregon at Gill Coliseum. The game will be televised by Pac-12 Oregon.
