Beavers 24th in USA Today/NWCA Top 25 poll

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State wrestling team dropped nine spots to No. 24 in the USA Today/National Wrestling Coaches Association's Top 25 poll on Tuesday.
OSU's fall was precipitated by a split in the season-opening Mountaineer Duals. The Beavers defeated Duke 22-20, but lost 25-15 to host Appalachian State, which moved up to No. 23 as a result.
Five Beavers earned Top-20 consideration in their respective weight classes by The Open Mat, and three were ranked by InterMat and the Amateur Wrestling News in those website's weekly rankings. The team was ranked No. 22 in InterMat's dual-meet poll, but fell out of the tournament rankings after being No. 24 in the Nov. 8 poll.
Oklahoma State was ranked No. 1 by USA Today/NWCA, followed by Penn State, Iowa, Ohio State and Missouri. Future OSU opponents in the rankings were Rutgers (10), Michigan (11), Stanford (15), Oklahoma (17) and Arizona State (19).

They begin Pacific-12 Conference action against Stanford on Jan. 30, 2017, also at Gill Coliseum. The Beavers are five-time defending Pac-12 champions.
This year's Pac-12 Championships are Feb. 26, at Stanford. The NCAA Championships are March 16-18 at St. Louis.

- Junior 125-pounder Ronnie Bresser (0-0) was ranked No. 6 by The Open Mat, but unranked by InterMat and AWN. He did not compete last weekend and may redshirt.
 - Senior 141-pounder Joey Palmer (2-0) is ranked No. 16 by The Open Mat and No. 19 by InterMat in the 141-pound weight class and No. 9 by AWN at 133. He has moved up to 141 this is season after competing at 133 in 2015-16, and AWN's rankings do not yet reflect that switch.
 - Senior 149-pounder Joey Delgado (2-0) is ranked No. 15 by The Open Mat, but is unranked by The Open Mat and AWN.
 - Redshirt sophomore 184-pounder Corey Griego (1-1) is ranked No. 17 by InterMat and AWN, and No. 20 by The Open Mat.
 - Redshirt junior 197-pounder Cody Crawford (0-0) is ranked No. 11 by AWN, No. 17 by InterMat and No. 20 by The Open Mat. He did not compete in North Carolina last Saturday.
