Todd Stansbury was named Executive Associate Athletic Director at Oregon State University on December 12, 2002.
As the Executive Associate Athletic Director, Stansbury supervises sport programs, represents the department on a number of campus committees including the Integrated Marketing Cabinet, and oversees various units including; business, facilities, and external operations. Since coming to Oregon State University, Stansbury has been a member of the senior management team that has led the department to unprecedented athletic success, while undertaking over $120 Million in capital projects, implementing the "Everyday Champions" branding program, and the completion of numerous high profile coaching searches.
Some of the highlights of the program during his tenure include the planning and completion of the $80 Million Reser Stadium expansion, a 50% increase in overall revenue, a 100% increase in the Beaver Athletic Student Fund (BASF/annual fund), and the increased national visibility of OSU athletic teams through postseason play.
Stansbury began his professional career as a banker in the asset based lending division of Citizens and Southern National Bank headquartered in Atlanta before returning to his alma mater as the academic counselor for football in 1988.
As the assistant athletic director for academics at Georgia Tech he was responsible for the overall development, implementation, and management of the academic support program for student-athletes. This program was a major component of the Homer Rice Total Person Program which was adopted nationally by the NCAA Foundation and the Division I-A Athletic Directors as the NCAA Champs/Life Skills Program. While serving as assistant athletic director for academics, Georgia Tech was consistently recognized nationally for its graduation rates.
In 1995 Stansbury left Georgia Tech to become the international coordinator for the Institute for International Sport. In this capacity he and his wife, Karen spent over 16 months traveling around the world promoting the 1997 World Scholar-Athlete Games and developing a worldwide network of educators, sport organizations, and government leaders.
Upon his return to the United States in 1996 Stansbury went to work for Southern Network Services in Birmingham, Ala., as the manager of internet business services and helped develop the business and marketing plans for the internet division of the regional computer networking firm.
He returned to intercollegiate athletics in 1997 at the University of Houston, serving as associate athletics director. He was directly responsible for all NCAA compliance activities, student-athlete support services and was the primary liaison to the Universities' administrative units. Under his direction the student-athlete support program was transformed into a program recognized by USA Today for increasing graduation rates for student-athletes.
As the Director of Athletics at East Tennessee State University, he initiated and implemented a program-wide strategic plan and reorganization while completing numerous infrastructure and capital projects including the development of a golf practice facility and the expansion of the athletic training room facility into an out-patient rehab center. In addition to numerous athletic accomplishments ETSU was recognized by USA Today for increasing the graduation rates of its student-athletes while under his direction.
The Oakville, Ontario, Canada native went to Georgia Tech on a football scholarship where he lettered as a linebacker and graduated on Dean's List with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management in 1984. He was a third round draft choice for the Saskatchewan Rough Riders of the Canadian Football League and later completed a master of science in sports administration at Georgia State University in 1993.
With a wealth of experience in both the private and public sectors Stansbury has developed and implemented programs designed to enhance the student-athlete experience and develop student-athletes into leaders who are prepared to excel in today's competitive environment. Stansbury's interest in youth leadership development has led him to initiate various partnerships between college athletics and community organizations over the years including the Phoenix Program, Project Team Work, and Junior Achievement.
Married to the former Karen Hammond of Easley, S.C., the Stansbury's share an avid interest in the outdoors and travel. These interests have led to a number of adventures including treks in the Himalaya of Nepal and to the hill tribes of Northern Thailand, tracking the Mountain Gorilla in the Congo (Zaire), and sailing the Whitsunday Islands of Australia.
