Todd Stansbury was named Executive Associate Athletic Director at Oregon State University on December 12, 2002. Stansbury supervises sport programs, represents the department on a number of campus committees, including the President's Integrated Marketing Cabinet, serves on the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee, and oversees the external operations of the department. Since arriving at OSU, Stansbury has been a member of the senior management team that has led the department to unprecedented athletic success while undertaking over $140 million in capital projects, implementing the "Everyday Champions" rebranding strategy, and completing numerous high profile coaching searches. Some highlights of the program during his tenure include the planning and completion of the $115 million Reser Stadium expansion, a 50% increase in overall revenue, a 100% increase in the Beaver Athletic Student Fund (BASF) and the increased national visibility of OSU athletic teams through postseason play. Stansbury began his professional career as a banker in the asset based lending division of Citizens and Southern National Bank in Atlanta before returning to the Georgia Institute of Technology, his alma mater, as the academic counselor for football in 1988. As the assistant athletic director for academics at Georgia Tech he was responsible for the overall development and management of the academic support program for student-athletes. This program was a major component of the Homer Rice Total Person Program which was adopted nationally by the NCAA Foundation and the Division I-A Athletic Directors as the NCAA Champs/Life Skills Program. While serving as assistant athletic director for academics, Georgia Tech was consistently recognized nationally for its graduation rates. In 1995 Stansbury left Georgia Tech to become the international coordinator for the Institute for International Sport. In this capacity he and his wife, Karen, spent over 16 months traveling around the world promoting the 1997 World Scholar-Athlete Games and developing a worldwide network of educators, sport organizations and government leaders. Upon his return to the U.S. in 1996 Stansbury went to work for Southern Network Services in Birmingham, Ala., as the manager of internet business services and developed the business plan for the new internet services division. He returned to intercollegiate athletics in 1997 at the University of Houston, serving as associate athletic director. His responsibilities included NCAA compliance, student-athlete support services and he was the primary liaison to the University's administrative units. Under his direction the student-athlete support program was transformed and recognized by USA Today for increasing graduation rates. In July of 2000 he was hired as the Director of Athletics at East Tennessee State University. He initiated and implemented a program-wide strategic plan and reorganization while completing numerous infrastructure and capital projects, including the development of a state of the art golf practice facility and the expansion of the athletic training room facility into an out-patient rehabilitation center. In addition to numerous athletic accomplishments, ETSU was recognized by USA Today for increasing the graduation rates of its student-athletes while under his direction. The Oakville, Ontario native attended Georgia Tech on a football scholarship where he lettered as a linebacker and graduated with a B.S. in Industrial Management in 1984. He was a third round draft choice for the Saskatchewan Rough Riders and later completed a M.S. in sports administration at Georgia State University in 1993. With his experience in both the private and public sectors Stansbury has developed and implemented programs through strategic partnerships designed to develop student-athletes into leaders who are prepared to excel in today's competitive environment such as OSU's Leadership Institute, Beavers Without Borders, and the Varsity "O" Leadership Council. Married to the former Karen Hammond of Easley, S.C., the Stansbury's interest in the outdoors and travel has lead to a number of adventures including trekking the Himalaya of Nepal, tracking the Mountain Gorilla in the Congo (Zaire) and sailing the Whitsunday Islands of Australia. |
