Jessica Quinn
- Title:
- Assistant Coach
Jessica Quinn completed her third season as an assistant coach with the Oregon State volleyball program in 2019. She was appointed to a coaching role in April 2017 after spending the previous two years as the program’s director of operations since August 2015.
Â
In 2017, Quinn helped lead the Beavers to one of the best seasons in the program’s history. OSU one 21 matches, an improvement of nine wins, and an NCAA Tournament berth for the fourth time in history. Among the season’s highlights were the first five-match conference win streak since 1990 (a feat accomplished twice in 2017) and the first season sweeps of the Washington and Arizona schools since 1984 and 1990 respectively. Mary-Kate Marshall was named an All-American for the second straight year, and third time in her career, becoming just the sixth player in OSU history with 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs. In addition, setter Kylee McLaughlin was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and the AVCA Pacific North Region Freshman of the Year.
The Beavers’ 2018 season was marred by injuries. Starting middle blocker Kory Cheshire missed the entire season due to injury, outside hitter Shekinah Clarke missing all but four matches, and starting opposite Haylie Bennett missing time due to three separate injuries. Despite the injuries, the Beavers finished the preseason with a 10-2 record and road wins over a pair of top 25 teams in Iowa State and San Diego. Grace Massey was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic First Team and five of her teammates were also honored for academics.
For the second straight year, the 2019 season was disrupted by a slew of injuries and illness with starting setter Maddie Sheehan going down at midseason and hitters Chloe Brown, Maddie Goings, Cecilee Max-Brown and Amy Underdown missing time including one stretch with all four sidelines. In addition, opposite hitter Nya Buckner missed the full season for the second year in a row. Despite the difficulties, the Beavers won six preseason matches and swept the opening weekend of Pac-12 play for the first time since 2004, beating No. 24 Oregon in five as well as Colorado. Massey earned the second Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week award of her career following the opening week of conference play. Eight OSU players earned Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll.
Â
She brings more than 15 years of coaching and operations experience to the Beavers’ volleyball staff.
Â
Prior to joining the volleyball staff in 2015, she served as a coordinator of Oregon State’s Sports and Special Programs, supervising operations for 40 collegiate sports clubs.
Â
She served in that role from 2011-15, coordinating travel, event planning, fiscal planning and budget management, among other operations responsibilities. Additionally, she served as the coordinator of marketing and student development in her final year.
Â
Prior to that position, Quinn served as the director of girls’ volleyball for the Clovis North Area & Bronco Elite Volleyball Club from 2007-11. Among her other duties included in this role, Quinn served as a head coach.
Â
From 1998-2012, Quinn gained coaching experience with various college and club teams, including a one-year stint with OSU volleyball as a volunteer in 2011. Other college roles include service as an assistant coach at Rhodes College (2000), as well as a volunteer assistant role at UC-Davis (2004).
Â
Quinn played volleyball all four years of college, starting at Reedley College, from 1995-97, where she’ll be inducted to the school’s Hall of Fame in August. Quinn captained the team to a pair of Central Valley Conference Championships and fourth and sixth place finishes in the California State Championships.
Â
Following her time at Reedley, Quinn also served as a team captain at the University of Memphis (1997-99), where she finished among the program’s top-five career assist leaders (2,681) in only two seasons, while also posting two of the top-five single-game assist totals in school history (75 and 74, respectively).
Â
Quinn graduated cum laude from the University of Memphis in 2000 as a criminal justice major and political science minor.
