CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State junior guard Jamie Weisner will join Canada's Senior B Women’s National Team at the 36th William Jones International Basketball Tournament in Taipei, Taiwan. Canada is scheduled to play five games over the course of the event, beginning Wednesday against Chinese Taipei and wrapping up Sunday against the USA.
Weisner has had an eventful summer, earning her first call-up with the Senior Canadian National team prior to the Edmonton Grads International Challenge in late June. The guard was a standout for Canada at the FIBA U19 World Championship for Women in Lithuania last summer. As one of the most dynamic players at the event, she averaged 17.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists while shooting 54.5 percent from the floor en route to earning All-Tournament Team honors.
Weisner made 21 starts for the Beavers in 2013-14, averaging 12.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per-game. She shot 39.9 percent from three-point range (sixth in school history), knocking down 55 shots from downtown (tied for 10th in school history). Weisner finished the season with three double-doubles and five 20-point games.
Weisner is one of five Beavers to appear in international competition this summer, joining fellow Canadian Ruth Hamblin, Ali Gibson with Puerto Rico, Gabriella Hanson with Sweden (U20) and Marie Gülich with Germany (U20).
Oregon State, which finished the season ranked 25th in the nation, is coming off a record-setting season in 2013-14. The Beavers went 24-11 overall, 13-5 in the Pac-12, won their first NCAA Tournament game since 1995 and returns 95 percent of their scoring and 96 percent of their rebounds this fall.
