June 24, 2014

After a long 12 days of traveling for the USA National Team tryouts I am back home, but what an amazing experience it was for me!  I love being around athletes who are as passionate about this sport as I am.  All 24 athletes did a great job and I am very happy I am not on the selection committee who had the job of narrowing it down to a team of 17.  I am very proud of all the players and the effort they put in throughout these tryouts.

Our adventure started out in Lynchburg, Virginia where we played a double header against a local college all-star team.  We won both games and the players did a phenomenal job signing autographs for the future little softball players and fans after the game.  After a few days, we loaded up the bus and traveled for 10 hours (Some would say we traveled for 5 movies) to Findlay, Ohio.  In Ohio, we played another double header and won both games.  These athletes played a double header, signed autographs after each game and worked a clinic the following morning…they were awesome!  After our trip to Ohio, we loaded the bus for another 10 hour haul back to Virginia for 2 more games.  At the end of this road trip, the team was 6-0 and we had some very happy softball fans around the country that thoroughly enjoyed meeting and watching these awesome athletes compete.

It is always an honor to wear the Red, White and Blue, whether as a coach or a player and I am looking forward to representing this great country at the World Championship in Holland this summer.  This team will work hard to prepare and compete to accomplish the ultimate goal of coming home with the Gold!  Keep an eye out for Team USA in your program guides because we will have some games on ESPN during the US Cup in July.

Stay tuned for updates sports fans…
