Walnut Creek, Calif. – Nine members of the Oregon State men’s rowing team earn Pac-12 All-Academic honors, five of whom were named to the First Team, as announced by the conference Monday.
Nick Aerne, Aidan Daly-Jensen, Taylor Heen, Chase Hooper, and Bobby Vernazza all earn Pac-12 All-Academic First Team honors, while Ross Ellingwood, Clark Fisher, Martin Forde, and Josh West earn Second Team honors.
All rowers given academic honors must have a 3.00 GPA or higher and be a major contributor during the season.
Nick Aerne, an Oregon State junior and Mechanical Engineering major, maintains a 3.36 GPA, while Aidan Daly-Jensen, a junior and Electrical and Computer Engineering major, has a 3.49 GPA. Oregon State junior Taylor Heen majors in Mechanical Engineering and maintains a 3.34. The First Team is rounded out by junior Chase Hooper and senior Bobby Vernazza, both majoring in Biology, and sporting a 3.38 and 3.46 GPA, respectively.
Oregon State senior Ross Ellingwood, who was named to the Pac-12 All-Conference First Team last week, earns Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team honors with a 3.25 GPA in Geology. Junior Clark Fisher, a Public Health major, maintains a 3.27 GPA, while junior Martin Forde sports a 3.01 GPA in Business Administration. Sophomore Josh West rounds out the Second Team for the Beavs with a 3.00 GPA in Pre-Business.
All nine Oregon State rowers have participated in a majority of the Varsity 8 or Junior Varsity 8 races during the 2013-14 season, while also demonstrating focus, drive, and excellence in the classroom.
