CORVALLIS, Ore. – Silvia Colussi-Pelaez has signed a financial aid agreement to join the Oregon State gymnastics program, head coach Tanya Chaplin announced Wednesday. Colussi-Pelaez, a transfer from Florida, completes the 2014 recruiting class that also includes two incoming freshmen.

“I am looking forward to Silvia joining the Oregon State gymnastics program this summer,” Chaplin said. “Silvia brings a wealth of international competition experience and will be a major asset to the program. She has a very artistic quality to her gymnastics that immediately catches your attention. Silvia is an excellent student and a wonderful young woman and I want to welcome her to Oregon State University.”

Colussi-Pelaez, who trains on all four events, competed as a member of Spain’s national team at the 2013 World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, where she successfully performed a sideways aerial on the balance beam – a first in World or Olympic competition, the skill is now named the Colussi-Pelaez. In 2013, she finished third in the all-around and on vault, beam and floor exercise at the Spanish National Championships. She was also a member of Spain’s 2012 team at the London Olympic Test Event and a member of Spain’s 2011 World Championships team in Tokyo, Japan.

In 2014, coming off her World Championships training cycle, Colussi-Pelaez was part of Florida’s competitive lineup three times setting season-highs of 9.70 on vault and 9.75 on the floor. She added a season-high 9.80 in a bars exhibition and a 9.450 in an exhibition on the beam.

“I’m really excited to be a part of the gymnastics program at Oregon State,” Colussi-Pelaez said. “The coaches were extremely welcoming and supportive and team felt like a family. I love how the coaching staff is not only very involved in your gymnastics but also in your academics. During my visit I enjoyed the campus environment and I feel that all the support at OSU will allow me to excel in my athletics and academics.”

Colussi-Pelaez, who plans to study chemical engineering at OSU, will have three year of eligibility remaining when she arrives at Oregon State.
