LAS VEGAS – Junior Kori Nishitomi recorded her 19th multi-hit game of the season, but the Oregon State softball team fell to UNLV 5-1 Saturday evening in Las Vegas.
Nishitomi went 2-for-3, reaching base for the 10th consecutive game. Fellow junior Dani Gilmore tallied an RBI double and a walk, moving her within two of second on Oregon State’s career walks list with 94. Senior Hannah Bouska and freshman Alexis Gonzalez also recorded hits in the contest.
The Rebels jumped out to an early lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Oregon State (15-30) looked like it might have a chance to get on the board in the third, when Gilmore, Gonzalez and junior CJ Chirichigno all reached to load the bases, but the Beavers stranded all three runners.
Oregon State was able to tie things up in the fifth. Nishitomi led off the inning with a single, before Garcia reached first on a fielder’s choice. Gilmore followed her with a double off the wall, bringing Ya Garcia home and tying things up at one. UNLV (23-27) responded in the bottom of the frame, however, scoring four runs to retake the lead 5-1. The Rebels would hold on from there, taking the victory by four runs.
The Beavers and Rebels will wrap-up their weekend set with a game tomorrow at noon.
