SAN DIEGO, Calif. Michele Turney finished second in the triple jump and Kayla Fleskes and Christina MacDonald both were in the top 10 of the javelin on the Beavers’ final day of competition at the UCSD Triton Invitational in San Diego, Calif. on Saturday.

Turney’s leap of 39’ 1” clinched second place for the OSU record holder. The sophomore’s mark was the second best of her young career, just shy of the 39’ 6.50” she posted at the John Knight Twilight on April 11.

Kayla Fleskes and Christina MacDonald both ended up in the top 10 of a 33-person field in the javelin. Fleskes finished second in her flight and eighth overall with a throw of 130’ 2”. It was the her third-ever mark of over 130 feet, which she also accomplished at the Willamette Invite on March 29, 2014 (130’ 11.25”) and the John Knight Twilight on April 12, 2013 (132’ 2”).

Freshman Christina MacDonald finished third in her flight and 10th overall in the same event with a throw of 128’ 5”.

In the shot put, freshman Melissa Ausman came in fourth in her flight with a toss of 36’ 11.50”.

Next Friday, Oregon State will host its second meet of the season and just its fourth since 1988 at the Whyte Track and Field Center in Corvallis. The javelin begins the day’s competition at noon.
