CORVALLIS, Ore. – Junior Dani Gilmore hit her seventh home run of the season, but it was not enough to carry the Oregon State softball team past No. 1 Oregon, as the Ducks tallied a 10-2 victory in game two of the Civil War series presented by The Oregon College Savings Plan, PacificSource Health Plans, Your Local Ford Stores, Wells Fargo and McDonald’s.
The homer was the 24th of Gilmore’s career, moving her into a tie for ninth with former teammate Lea Cavestany on Oregon State’s all-time list. With Sunday’s 2-for-3 performance, Gilmore’s slugging percentage also improves to .707 this season, giving her a solid hold on the No. 2 position on OSU’s single-season list.
The contest was played before a crowd of 983, the third-highest attendance in the history of the OSU Softball Complex.
For the second consecutive day the Beavers started off the scoring with a home run, as Gilmore blasted a solo shot to give Oregon State (13-22, 3-9 Pac-12) an early advantage. The lead would be short-lived, however, as Oregon (36-5, 10-1) scored seven in the third to take control of the matchup. The Ducks would add another three in the sixth to extend the edge to 10-1.
Oregon State pulled one back in the bottom of the sixth, as Padilla brought Chirichigno home on an RBI groundout, but it was not enough to extend the game, as the Ducks took the victory in six innings.
Oregon State and Oregon will wrap up the Civil War series tomorrow with a 3 p.m. start. The game will be carried live on Pac-12 Networks.
