COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomore Brian Jung shot a 4-over 71-75--146 on the opening day of the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate on Saturday to put him in a tie for 20th place and the Oregon State men’s golf team in 10th place at the two-day, 54-hole tournament.
The Beavers shot a 28-over 295-301--596 at the par-71, 7,455-yard Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University Golf Club to put them in 10th place in the 15-team field. The final round begins at 8:30 a.m. ET (5:30 a.m. PT) on Sunday with tee times off the first and 10th holes. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Jung had a clean scorecard in his morning round with one birdie, one bogey and 16 pars to an even-par 71. He birdied the same hole in the afternoon, the par-5 fourth, but also had five bogeys on the tough course to shoot a 4-over 75 for his 146 that was good for a tie for 20th.
Senior David Fink and junior Alex Franklin are both tied for 37th after shooting shot an 8-over 150. Fink had a pair of 75’s on Saturday highlighted by an eagle in the second round and Franklin went 74-76 with a birdie in each round.
Junior Scott Kim shot a 10-over 75-77--152 for a tie for 52nd place and freshman Kevin Murphy is a stroke back with an 11-over 78-75--153 to leave him in a tie for 58th.
No. 5 Georgia Tech, the top-ranked team in the field, has the lead through 36 holes with a 4-over 281-291--572, while UAB is second with an 8-over 576, and Liberty and UNLV are tied for third with a 13-over 581. Only four players are in red figures after the first day, led by Ohio State’s Frederick Hammer who shot a 3-under 70-69--139.
