Ben Wetzler spun a complete-game effort and Michael Conforto hit his second home run of the season to pace the Beavers to a series-opening 4-1 win over Stanford on Friday. Jeff Hendrix, Caleb Hamilton and Michael Howard all drove in runs for the Beavers, who tallied seven as a club. Wetzler, meanwhile, ran with the run support, holding the Cardinal to four hits and three walks. He improved to 6-0 with the win.
Conforto, Davis Streaking
Michael Conforto and Dylan Davis take matching seven-game hit streaks into Saturday’s game. They’re both 14-for-31 (.452) during the streak. Davis has five doubles and a home run with 13 RBI during his while Conforto has two doubles, one home run and five RBI. Both streaks are season-longs for each.
Wetzler Just Wins
Friday night’s winner, Ben Wetzler, equaled Ken Noble for the most in OSU history; both are now at 30. Wetzler has won all six of his appearances this season and has won 16 straight dating back to last season. Oregon State is 21-1 when he starts since last season.
Looking To Push That Streak
A win Saturday would be the Beavers’ seventh consecutive over the Cardinal, which would become the school’s longest in the all-time series. The 2006-07 club won six straight over Stanford as well. The Beavers are going for their eighth series victory in their last 10 against the Cardinal.
On Shy of ‘13
Also to be noted, a win Saturday would push Oregon State to 24-6 over the first 30 games of the season. The 2013 Beavers were 25-5 over their first 30 games, and the 2012 club was 19-11.
• Oregon State is 19-0 when recording more hits than an opponent.
• Michael Conforto moved his career total in hits to 194 with a two-hit effort Friday. He’s three shy of catching up to Kavin Keyes, whose 197 is good for 10th.
• The Beavers are averaging 3.7 runs in Andrew Moore’s six starts this season. They’re 3-3 when he starts on the hill.
• Head coach Pat Casey owns 26 of Oregon State’s 34 all-time against Stanford. That’s better than 76 percent.
• Michael Conforto has nine multi-RBI efforts this season, surpassing the eight he had in all of 2013.
• OSU is 16-4 against right-handed starters.
