WAIKOLOA, Hawai’i – SeniorDavid Fink shot a career-best 6-under 66 in the final round of play at the 24th Annual Amer Ari Invitational, finishing in fourth place at the three-day, 54-hole tournament.
Fink shined throughout the invitational, posting a 70-67-66--203, which led the Beavers on each day at the par-72, 7,074-yard Waikoloa Kings’ Course. The Hawai'i native hit six birdies and 12 shots for par on Saturday, jumping from a 12th place tie to sole possession of fourth by the end of the day.
Fink's performance marked the 18th round that he has shot sub-70 in his career, three of which have already come this season. His previous career-low was a 5-under 67 that he has earned three times, most recently on Friday in the second round of the Amer Ari Invitational.
Oregon State finished in 14th place out of the 20-team field, after a 10-under 285-281-288--854 performance. Fink would be the only Beaver to stay under par on the final day, as the team combined to post an even-par 288.
Freshman Kevin Murphy shot a 2-over 74 on Saturday, which placed him in a tie for 56th place with a 1-under 72-69-74--215 in the tournament.
Junior Alex Franklin was the next highest finisher for Oregon State, tying for 77th after a 2-over 74 on the final day. He ended the three-day invitational with a 2-over 72-72-74--218
Freshman Kevin Chen shot a 6-over 75-73-74--222 that earned him a tie for 94th place, while junior Scott Kim finished with a 7-over 71-77-75--223 after struggling on the last two days of the tournament.
The Beavers return to action Friday, Feb. 21 to Sunday, Feb. 23 at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Springs, Calif.
