QUOTING HEAD COACH JON REEHOORN:
“This is the earliest we have ever started to my knowledge, but I’m really excited about how it has worked out. The guys have been working hard and are excited to get the year going. Hopefully this event serves as great preparation for our trip to Hawai’i, but we need to take care of business in Tucson.
“I am really looking forward to watching David Fink. He has done a great job leading a young group and he cares so deeply about our success.
“We didn’t have many under-par rounds from our top three guys in the fall until Cal, and we posted a very good finish. These three – David, Alex and Kevin – have the ability to take this team a long way.”
A LOOK BACK AT THE FALL: Oregon State finished in third place in three of its four fall tournaments – Kikkor Husky Invitational, Mark Simpson Invitational and Alister MacKenzie Invitational – and seventh at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate.
Individually, the Beavers had a player in the top 10 in three of the four tournaments with Alex Franklin finishing in a tie for seventh at the Kikkor Husky Invitational, Kevin Murphy placing seventh at the Mark Simpson Invitational and David Fink finishing second at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational.
Fink was sensational at the Alister MacKenzie as he finished with a career-best three-round score of 12-under 69-67-68--204. The 12 under equals the third-lowest score in Oregon State history, tying him with James Allenby and just one stroke behind Jonathan Green and two off the school record by Vincent Johnson.
