CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State Athletic Department is excited to announce a rare basketball doubleheader and Education Appreciation Night Friday, Dec. 13 when the men’s basketball team hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a game that has been rescheduled from Dec. 7, and the women’s basketball team hosts Hawai’i.
The men’s game will tip-off at 5 p.m. at Gill Coliseum with the women’s game at 7:15 p.m., or 30 minutes following the men’s game. Fans that have purchased tickets for either game will be admitted free to the other.
In addition, teachers/educators, faculty and staff with employee identification from any pre-kindergarten through college place of learning will be admitted for free to both games. Parking at all lots, except the parking area between Gill Coliseum and the Sports Performance Center, will be free.
“We hope this is a great way for our fans to start a busy holiday weekend with a great doubleheader of basketball at Gill Coliseum,” Director of Athletics Bob De Carolis said. “We are enthusiastic about both of our basketball teams this year and this is a great way for fans to come out to a great night of action. We also are very appreciative of the hard work educators and staffs in our communities do on a daily basis and we are excited to create this opportunity for free admission.”
The men are 3-2 through five games, including a 90-83 win against Maryland in College Park, Md. on Nov. 17, which was the Beavers’ first win over an ACC team on the road and snapped a 30-game win streak by the Terps against non-conference teams at home. Individually, Seniors Roberto Nelson (25.4) and Devon Collier (23.0) are first and second, respectively, in the Pac-12 in scoring and the nation’s top scoring tandem.
The women's team is off to a 5-2 start, beating its opponents by an average of 18.4 points per game. The Beavers top the Pac-12 in a number of categories, including assists (18.4), blocks (6.9) and field goal percentage defense (.323). They are also 11th in the nation in 3-point field goals made per game (8.9) and hit a school-record 17 against Loyola Marymount earlier this season.
Tickets can be purchased at the Gill Coliseum Ticket Office starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, by calling 1-800-GO-BEAVS or online at BeaverTickets.com.
