Corvallis, Ore. – Freshman heavyweight Amarveer Dhesi jumps to a No. 19 ranking this week, as released by The Open Mat on Tuesday.
Dhesi, a Surrey native, finds himself ranked for the first time this season after going 3-1 over weekend in Michigan. At the EMU Duals, Dhesi defeated Michigan State’s Mike McClure by a 6-0 decision. McClure was ranked No. 12 at the time by The Open Mat and InterMat.
The freshman then defeated Northern Illinois’ Jared Torrence by a 6-1 decision, and Central Michigan’s Adam Robinson by a 4-3 decision to round out the day.
Dhesi suffered his first loss of the season on Sunday against Michigan’s Adam Coon, who is now ranked No. 18 and No. 20 by The Open Mat and InterMat, respectively.
Junior Taylor Meeks remains atop the 197 lb. weight class, protecting his No. 1 ranking across the board with a perfect 9-0 record so far this year. Senior RJ Pena ranks No. 5 by The Open Mat and No. 7 by InterMat coming off a 3-1 weekend in Michigan.
Senior Scott Sakaguchi remains amongst the top at 149, claiming a No. 3 and No. 4 ranking by InterMat and The Open Mat, respectively.
