LOS ANGELES – The Oregon State volleyball team dropped a three-set match to UCLA Friday night at the John Wooden Center. Set scores were 15-25, 19-25 and 23-25.
“We fought hard in the middle of the second and third sets,” Oregon State head coach Taras Liskevych said. “We are very inconsistent in our outside hitting. We have to just keep fighting.”
Oregon State (9-15 overall, 0-13 Pac-12 Conference) was led offensively by Arica Nassar, who notched seven kills. Kelsey Zimmerman and Amanda Brown totaled six apiece and Amy Sorensen finished with five.
As a team, Oregon State hit .154 while the Bruins posted a .314 hitting percentage. UCLA was led by Kelly Reeves, who finished with 12 kills while Maddy Klineman and Karsta Lowe were credited with 11 apiece.
Becky Defoe topped the Beavers defensively, finishing with 16 digs, giving her 1,917 for her career. She has led the Beavers in that category in 22-of-24 matches this season.
Darby Reeder was close behind with nine digs of her own.
The teams were roughly equal at the net, with Oregon State claiming six blocks to the Bruins’ (13-10, 4-9) five. Nassar, Brown and Laura Schaudt all had three to share the Beavers’ team lead.
The lead changed hands just twice during the match, once apiece in the first and third sets. The match also saw just six tie scores, including the last at 22 points in the third and final set.
The Beavers hit .273 in that final set, but the Bruins were equally as good, posting a .289 clip.
The Beavers conclude their trip Sunday with an 11 a.m. PT match at USC. The match will air live on the Pac-12 Networks.
