WESTWOOD, Calif. – Sophomore Sammy Harrison set a pool record in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:49.93, as the Oregon State swimming team competed in a quad-meet at the Spieker Aquatics Center in Westwood, Calif. Friday afternoon. With her time today, Harrison is now ranked eighth in the nation in the 1000 freestyle. She also finished first in the 500 freestyle (4:50.67), as the Beavers took on UCLA, UC Santa Barbara and Florida Gulf Coast.
Senior Crystal Kibby tallied a pair of top-three finishes, taking second in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.44) and third in the 200 IM (2:08.65). Kibby also finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke at 1:05.48. Classmate Aya Fujimuraplaced fourth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.61, and sixth in the 200 butterfly at 2:06.91.
Freshman Brooke Meyer followed Fujimura in both events, taking fifth in the 100 butterfly (58.65) and 10th in the 200 butterfly (2:08.73). Sophomore Amani Amr finished seventh in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:04.83 and eighth in the 100 backstroke at 57.96. Freshman Anni Heckerrecorded a pair of eighth-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (24.46) and the 100 freestyle (52.74).
Freshman Czsarina Isleta placed eighth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:23.61, while junior Dakota Bloch took ninth in the 500 freestyle at 5:10.43. Freshman Andrea Young finished 10th in both the 50 freestyle (24.69) and the 100 freestyle (53.86).
As a team, Oregon State fell 179-77 to the Bruins, 179-77 to the Gauchos and 179-80 to the Eagles.
Oregon State will return to action tomorrow, when it takes on San Diego and UC Davis.
