CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State men’s soccer seniors Josh Smith and Daniel Van Vleet have both been named to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced today.

“Josh and Dan have worked so hard, both on and off the field,” said head coach Steve Simmons. “I’m so proud that they continue the legacy of academic excellence we have in this program. These guys lead the way for us, and they are role models for our younger players.”

Smith has a 3.98 GPA as a chemical engineering major. The Federal Way, Wash., native has recorded the first two goals of his career this season, both of which have been game-winners. Smith has added one assist, while starting 15 of the Beavers 16 games in his senior campaign, playing primarily at fullback. Smith was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic First Team the last two seasons, and was men’s soccer’s Everyday Champion for 2012-13.

Van Vleet is an Exercise and Sports Science major with a 3.55 GPA. He has tallied the first three goals of his career this season, making four starts in 15 appearances. The forward from Tempe, Ariz. recorded a brace against Oakland on Sept. 8, to highlight his season so far. Van Vleet was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Second-Team as a sophomore.

The Beavers will return to action Friday, Nov. 8 against No. 1/1 California.
