Corvallis, Ore. – The Oregon State men’s rowing team opens the 2013-14 season, Sunday, competing in the Portland Fall Classic.
The Beavers will be rowing in two events, the Varsity 8 and Junior Varsity 8, both taking place on the Willamette River. Oregon State will feature two line-ups in the Varsity 8, an A and B team, and one line-up in the Junior Varsity 8.
Last year, Oregon State finished first in the Portland Fall Classic with a Varsity 8 time of 16:03:52 and Junior Varsity 8 time of 16:17:21, and continued on to claim first place marks in four other races throughout the season. The Beavers closed out the 2012-13 season with a 4th place finish at the Pac-12 Championships, earning a total of 48 points.
Oregon State graduated nine seniors from last year’s squad and has added three new freshmen to their roster for the 2013-14 season. With 29 returners from last year’s team, the Beavers will have a high level of experience entering their first race.
The Beavers will compete once more in the fall, rowing in the Head of the Lake Regatta in Seattle, Washington on Nov. 3. Last year, Oregon State’s Junior Varsity 8 claimed a first place finish with a time of 17:08:19 and the Varsity 8 grabbed a fifth place finish at 16:40:47. Oregon State also entered a Championship 4 A and B team that finished fifth and sixth respectfully.
The 2013 Portland Fall Classic is set for Sunday. Oregon State’s Varsity 8 is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. and the Junior Varsity 8 at 8:31 a.m. Pacific Time. For more information on the Portland Fall Classic, visit www.regattacentral.com.
