CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to Colorado Sunday at Gill Coliseum. Set scores were 28-30, 21-25 and 23-25.
The Beavers held a late in sets one and three, but were not able to pull away for the victory. Overall, OSU was up eight times and tied with the Buffaloes 18 times.
“I need to give this team credit for really battling but right now, we are still making too many unforced errors,” Oregon State head coach Taras Liskevych said. “When you are in a losing streak, it is very tough to be aggressive at the end of sets. That’s what we have to do. We have to get in there, be aggressive and finish the game.”
The Beavers (9-10 overall, 0-8 Pac-12 Conference) were led offensively by Lila Toner and Amanda Brown, who each finished with eight kills. Overall, Oregon State hit .142 but was bested by Colorado, which finished at a .240 clip.
Kerra Schroeder and Alexis Austin each had 12 kills to lead the Buffaloes (12-6, 4-4).
Oregon State led the battled at the net, out-blocking Colorado, 10-7, on the strength of Arica Nassar’s six and Brown’s three. But the Buffaloes managed to lead the match in digs, 59 to 48, and service aces, five to four. CU also totaled 49 kills to 36 for Oregon State.
Becky Defoe led OSU with 17 digs; Toner was next at eight. Cierra Simpson was Colorado’s top player in terms of digs at 15.
The Beavers hit the road next weekend for two matches in the San Francisco Bay Area. OSU visits Stanford Friday night at 7 p.m. PT and California Sunday at 3 p.m. Sunday’s match will air on the Pac-12 Networks.
