CORVALLIS, Ore. – Amanda Brown had 15 kills and Laura Schaudt and Lila Toner pitched in with 13 apiece but the Oregon State volleyball team was edged in five sets by No. 23 UCLA Saturday night at Gill Coliseum.

The Beavers found themselves up 8-4 in the fifth and final set but the Bruins scored 11 of the match’s last 14 points.
“We knew we were going to be in a tough match,” Oregon State head coach Taras Liskevych said. “In the fifth set, we just made some errors; we were up 8-4 and they out-scored us 11-3. You just can’t do that and get a win.”
Brown led the Beavers (9-8 overall, 0-6 Pac-12 Conference) offensively with her 15 kills, hitting at a .321 clip. Overall, Oregon State hit .179 while UCLA (10-6, 1-5) finished at a .274 clip.
Schaudt hit .294 to back up Brown while Toner finished at a .135 clip.
UCLA’s Karsta Lowe led her team with 18 kills; Claire Felix was close behind with 14.
Based on the stat sheet, the match was balanced, with OSU claiming five more kills, 61 to 56, and four more digs, 56 to 52. Becky Defoe led the Beavers with 16 digs while Kelly Reeves and Karly Drolson had 10 apiece for the Bruins.
Toner finished with her third double double of the season as the freshman backed Defoe up with 11 digs of her own.
The Bruins accumulated 17 blocks to the Beavers’ three in the only statistical category that was heavily balanced to one club.
UCLA hit .303 in set one and .421 in set three, winning each, 25-21 and 25-16, respectively. The Beavers evened the match in sets two and four with 25-23 and 25-22 victories. The Bruins hit .314 in set two but OSU shut the Bruins down in set four, forcing them into a .094 clip.
The Beavers stay home next weekend and take on Utah Friday night in a match scheduled to air on the Pac-12 Networks at 6 p.m. PT. The match is the team’s annual Spike Out Cancer event. The team will wear pink jerseys and fans can purchase “Dam Cancer” t-shirts that will gain them free admittance to the match and other selected Oregon State home events.
