SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Kinsey Gomez finished 11th, Emily Weber 22nd and Holly Cavalluzzo 29th to pace the Oregon State cross country team at the NCAA Inter-Regional Jamboree in Sacramento, Calif. on Friday. The Beavers finished tied for fifth in the 19-team field with 145 points.
Gomez’s time of 17:10 on the 5,000-meter course bested her PR at the distance by more than 30 seconds and is now fifth all-time at Oregon State. As a freshman in 2011, Gomez ran 17:45 at the 5K Bill Dellinger Invitational.
Weber’s effort in just her second collegiate cross country race also puts her among OSU’s all-time bests. The redshirt freshman ran 17:26, which places her ninth in school history for 5,000 meters. She was followed by true freshman Holly Cavalluzzo, who ran 17:33, which moves her into the 12th position on Oregon State’s all-time list.
Behind Cavalluzzo was fellow freshmen Kristiane Width. The Norwegian native ran 17:43 to come in 40th place overall. Sandra Martinez rounded out Oregon State’s scorers at the meet, as the senior finished the course in 17:47 and 45th overall.
The Beavers’ 145 points tied them with fellow Pac-12 member California. UCLA edged Cal Poly to win the women's team title. The Bruins tallied 77 points to finish one point ahead of the Mustangs. UC Davis was third with 88 and Sacramento State scored 102 to place fourth.
Oregon State will also send a group to the Charles Bowles Invitational at Willamette University in Salem, Ore. on Saturday. The women’s 5K for Division I entries begins at 10:15 a.m.
