Beavers Cruise Past Cal Poly 3-0.
Corvallis, Ore. – The Oregon State women’s soccer team cruised past Cal Poly Friday with a final score of 3-0, two goals coming from senior forward Jenna Richardson and a third from senior midfielder Erin Uchacz.
The Beavers posted their first lead at the 41 minute mark as Jenna Richardson found the back of the net for the first time this season. Sophomore midfielder Natalie Meiggs slipped a ball in behind the Mustang’s defense, finding the foot of Richardson who placed the ball far post.
Richardson found the net once more in the 51st minute, tallying her second of the night. Sophomore midfielder Val Margerum drove the ball across the face of the goal, finding Richardson who flicked the ball near post, giving the Beavs a 2-0 lead.
Later, in the 73rd minute, the Beavs found the net for the third and final time. Meiggs slipped yet another perfectly weighted ball through the Mustang back line, finding Uchacz on the run. Uchacz placed the ball far post, scoring her first goal of the season and giving the Beavers a 3-0 victory.
Jenna Richardson on her two goals this evening…
“I think it was a team effort tonight. The balls that were played led me straight to goal and I really didn’t have to do a lot of work on my own. We have all been joking around that I have been under a curse, so when I scored my first goal we all had a ‘hoorah’ because the curse had been broken. Scoring another was just the cherry on top.”
On the team’s performance…
“This week we really put the work in at practice and it showed tonight. It felt really good to be rewarded for that hard work. Linus has made it clear that you have to really work to be on the field and I the team did that tonight.”
Erin Uchacz on her first goal of the season.
“Natalie played a great through ball to me and I was able to find the back of the net. It was a really great ball from Natalie.”
On the team’s performance…
“I think today has been a huge step forward for us. Because we were able to score some goals we were able to get bit of confidence and actually play without stressing. I think this is a really good step forward for us.”
Head Coach Linus Rhode on the win tonight…
“It feels great to get back in the win column. We have been battling away and working through a lot of things. I think we played very well tonight and were able to get a lot of chances. I think we did well on both sides of the ball, so overall I think it was a great way to head into conference next weekend.”
On his offense…
“We have been working on being much more aggressive in the final third, taking people on and creating chances. I think that the whole attitude in the final third is improving. I’m really happy for Jenna to get two goals tonight and Erin as well.”
