Beavers Come up Short Against Gonzaga
Spokane, Wash. – The Oregon State Women’s Soccer Team lost a close battle to Gonzaga 1-0, Sunday afternoon.
The first opportunity of the game came in the ninth minute for the Beavers as senior captain Jacy Drobney sent a shot just over the crossbar.
The Bulldogs retaliated with three shots on goal throughout the half, but sophomore goalkeeper Sammy Jo Prudhomme came up with three saves for Oregon State.
In the 27th minute, Gonzaga’s Tori Lee bent a corner on frame and found the back of the net, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.
Throughout the second half, the Beavers continued to put pressure on the Bulldog’s back line. Senior forward Jenna Richardson put two shots on goal, but Gonzaga’s Christie Tombari came up with the saves.
Senior midfielder Brandi Dawson put a dangerous header on frame in the 84th minute, but Tombari was able to get her hands on the ball, leaving the final score at 1-0.
“We have a lot of work to do, but the fight is definitely there,” Drobney said. “I think we just need to continue to fight out of this slump and continue to move forward.”
The Beavers are heading into their last preseason game before Pac-12 play begins.
“We need to continue to push through our last preseason game and into conference,” Drobney said. “I believe in this team and we will bounce back with whatever it takes.”
The Beavers return home Friday to take on Cal Poly at 7 p.m. Pacific Time.
