Corvallis, Ore. – The Oregon State Women’s Soccer Team lost a close match to UC Irvine 2-0 Friday night.
The first opportunity for the Beavers came in the 12th minute when senior captain Jacy Drobney sent a rocket on frame, but it was deflected for a corner by UCI’s keeper Jennifer Randazzo.
Irvine retaliated in the 13th minute when Laura McGrail capitalized on a turnover and placed the ball just past OSU’s Sammy Jo Prudhomme, giving the Anteaters a 1-0 lead going into the half.
The Anteaters would later double their lead 13 minutes into the second half. McGrail capitalized on another turnover and found the net for her second goal of the night, giving Irvine a 2-0 win over the Beavers.
“I think we were outplayed tonight,” said Head Coach Linus Rhode. “Both sides of the ball we were outplayed and when we look at our performance, we have some work to do.”
The Beavers are looking to move forward from tonight’s match and focus on Sunday’s game against Hawai’i.
“Hawai’i is a different team than Irvine,” Rhode said. “They are a different type of team and play a different formation so it will be interesting to see how the matchup is on Sunday.”
The Beavers take on Hawai’i Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.
