EAST LANSING, Mich. – Laura Schaudt led Oregon State with 11 kills and Becky Defoe had 14 digs as the Oregon State volleyball team concluded its trip to Michigan with a 3-0 loss to No. 20 Michigan State Saturday night.
Set scores were 12-25, 16-25 and 17-25.
Schaudt pitched in with her fourth consecutive match in double figures, and fifth in the team’s six matches in 2013. She attempted 27 attacks on Saturday, and added a dig in the loss, which sent the Beavers to 4-2 this season while the Spartans improved to 5-1.
Defoe, meanwhile, moved to within seven of the school record for digs and she is expected to hit that mark next week when the Beavers play in Portland. The senior led the team in digs for the fifth time this season.
Oregon State hit .000 for the match, and saw the Spartans post a .304 percentage. OSU had 34 digs to 32 for Michigan State, and the Spartans collected 13 blocks to the Beavers’ three.
Michigan State led the entire first set and the teams traded leads only once during the match – in the third set. The score found itself tied twice apiece in the second and third sets.
Oregon State returns to the state of Oregon next week when participating in the North Harbour Marriott Challenge at University of Portland.
