Meet Michael Philipp

OREGON STATE – 2014: Signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent. 2013: Michael Philipp (pronounced FILL-ip) finished his career having started 48 games, all at left tackle, including 26 straight … his 48 starts rank third in Oregon State history (Roy Schuening, OG, 50 starts all-time leader) … his last 26 starts (2012 & ’13) were all alongside left guard Josh Andrews, forming a solid and consistent left side for the rushing attack. 2012: Michael reclaimed the starting spot at left tackle after missing the 2011 season … started all 13 games … part of an offensive line that vastly improved from the previous season. 2011: Struggled through a knee injury during fall camp that required surgery … redshirt … had moved to right tackle prior to the season. 2010: Had an injury-marred season that included a broken nose and an ankle injury prior to the first game – in fact missed the first game … suffered a sprained ankle in the latter half of the season forcing him to miss the last three games … Phil Steele named him to his Pac-10 Second Team. 2009: Freshman All-America teams by Phil Steele and … won the starting left tackle spot during fall camp … the first true freshman to start on the offensive line at Oregon State since 1997 … formed a solid left side of the line along with Grant Johnson (LG), both of which were new starters.

ARROYO VALLEY: Highly recruited offensive lineman … rated by as four-star athlete … 2007 and ’08 all-state … rated him the 66th best overall prospect in the nation, the second-best run blocker and the third-best pass blocker … SuperPrep All-American … received the Anthony Munoz Offensive Lineman of the Year award as the top offensive lineman in San Bernardino County … played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

PERSONAL: Born September 7, 1991 in San Bernardino, California … son of Mareko and Me Philipp … has one sister, Clara, and three brothers, Mark, Paul and Hans … Mark played football at Southern Illinois … Paul was a four-year letterman (2003-06) at Arizona … Hans lettered as a defensive tackle at Arizona in 2008 … chose Oregon State because “it came down to where I felt most comfortable and for me, that was at Oregon State. My trip to Oregon State was eye opening and I loved it. I loved the coaches and especially Coach Riley and the Coach Cavanaugh” …  participated in the “Learning Through Listening: Native American Issues in Rural Oregon Communities during spring break of 2010, involving five days of interacting with the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians … graduated in December with a degree in public health.
